Revised Repost.
Holding on is something we all should want to do when it comes to our walk with Jesus. But we also may try to hold on to some things we shouldn’t be holding onto, as well. Which are the things that try to bring us down, and keep us back from holding on to the Lord as we should. But when it comes to grasping and holding on to Jesus, there are two different ways to go about it, it seems.
There’s the faith way=believing and knowing that God is holding us, and we don’t have to be worried with falling, but we’re always striving to climb higher and cling tighter(John10:26-29; 2Pet.1:10). And there’s a fearful/scary way=where we’re always afraid we’re going to fall. And are not secure in our place with the Lord. Thinking it’s all on us, and if we mess up and let go of what and where we’re holding on to, we’ll be finished. Which will also hinder us from striving to get and do better(Matt.25:24-30).
As believers we need to hold on in faith, with confidence. Because our hope and trust should rely on God’s amazing grace and His promise to keep us. And not as much as on our own abilities. Although we shouldn’t take it lightly, or be high-minded, and figure we can just play around and let go as we please, frustrating the grace of God or grieving the Holy Spirit, when we want(Rom.11:20; 1Cor.10:12). Lord, have mercy.
But when we are truly in Jesus and God has His hand’s on us, there is no need to fear. So we can hold on in faith, knowing that we can and will make it, for those reasons. So let’s hold on in faith to God and all He promises us He will do for us. Because He will do it(Heb.13:5-6).
There’s no need of following Jesus in fear, to the point where we’re afraid to move and get better or do anything. But that’s exactly what the devil wants us to do. And he’ll bring and do anything he can to try to get us to be that way. Although we are to do all we can to stand, and as long as we hold on and make it we’ll be alright. But if we do follow in fear, as in being frightful, we show we don’t really know Jesus as we should, and that our faith is small(Mark4:35-41).
As Jesus says, He has and will keep all the Father gives to Him. So let’s know we don’t have to worry, and let’s not be afraid of falling or whatever. He has and will have us(John17:12). So let’s believe and hold on like that, in confidence, trusting the Lord with all of our hearts. By the grace of God. In Jesus name.
